Our Story: Over 60 Years of Community Care

Walton Bridge Medical Centre has proudly cared for the people of The Gap and surrounding communities for over 60 years.

The practice was founded in 1966 by Dr Brian Cole OAM and Dr Stuart Johnstone. Their vision was to provide personalised, comprehensive medical care and build lasting relationships with individuals and families in the local community.

For generations of local families, Walton Bridge Medical Centre has been a trusted name in healthcare. We are proud to continue caring for our community under our original and much-loved name, carrying forward the legacy established by the founding doctors.

Over the decades, the practice has remained closely connected to The Gap. Some people who grew up attending the clinic as patients have even returned years later as practising GPs themselves — a reflection of the long-standing relationships between the practice and the local community.

The name Walton Bridge Medical Centre also has a strong connection to the area's history. Walton Bridge crosses Waterworks Road, which follows the historic route of the 1866 water pipeline from Enoggera Reservoir, Brisbane's first dam.

As The Gap has grown from a quiet semi-rural valley into a thriving Brisbane suburb, the clinic has evolved alongside the community. Today, we operate from a modern facility at 976 Waterworks Road, conveniently located outside The Gap Village Shopping Centre.

While medical technology and our facilities have changed, our commitment to accessible, comprehensive and compassionate care remains at the heart of the practice.

Caring for The Gap Community Today

We welcome new and past patients of all ages, with same-day appointments often available to make it easier to access the medical care you need, when you need it.

The clinic is a private billing practice and is open 7 days, with some after-hours appointments available during the week.

You'll find us at 976 Waterworks Road, The Gap, near the Day & Night Pharmacy outside The Gap Village Shopping Centre. There is ample free parking nearby, and on-site pathology services are available for your convenience.

The doctors take the time to understand each patient's individual health needs and provide guidance and ongoing care for a wide range of medical concerns.

The nursing team also supports patients and doctors with services including diabetes and heart disease monitoring, infant vaccinations, spirometry, ECGs, 24-hour ambulatory blood pressure monitoring and wound care.

Walton Bridge Medical Centre also has a strong commitment to medical education and professional development, supporting GP Registrars, medical and nursing students, and the ongoing development of the practice team.
